Really Cool News

Next week I will be submitting a technology grant that will allow me to film students doing an assessment, show them their assessment to give feedback, and show them what a proficient example looks like. This technology will also give me storage to store all of the videos, so that they can have an exit DVD when they get to 5th grade of all their assessments. This equipment will also give us the option to stream events live over the Internet. Anything that happens at school can be broadcast over the Internet, so families that could not attend can see as well. Very cool stuff, so wish me luck!

Up and Running

Off to a great start this year. 3rd-5th have been working hard on team building. They are trying to work together as a group to accomplish a task. They are working hard at becoming responsible for themselves as well as others. These kinds of activities fit right into Standard #5 for PE. We have gone to a standards based report card this year, so each student will be assessed on all 6 standards throughout the year. K-2 have been working on tossing and catching. They will begin to start partner work this week. They are working on Standard #1 that had to do with skills. Be sure to check this blog often for exciting news! There will be a lot going on the next couple of months in Physical Education!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to another great year of getting your child/ren physically active. I have got high hopes for the students this year! I really want their fitness scores to improve. A study that just came out of New York found that students that have high fitness scores have high achievement scores in the classroom. This was all races and genders, no matter the make up of the child the higher there fitness level was the higher their test scores were.

We are going to begin the year with some team building activities for 3rd-5th. K-2 will begin on learning how to move their bodies in a safe and efficient way.

I am really excited about this year and I am looking forward to teaching your children the importance of life long movement.
